September 11th Relief Fund: Charity or Bunco?

It never fails to amaze me the depths that human beings will go to in order to harm their brethren, all for the love of money. People regularly rob, cheat, pillage their neighbors, just to increase their financial or material wealth. I find this behavior – which is socially and politically acceptable – to be abhorrent and disgusting.

As of this writing, hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised for the Sept, 11th relief fund. The United Way and American red Cross have collected the majority of these donations. It has been months since the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. Yet, few of the victims or victims’ families have received any money whatsoever, and nobody seems to care.

To date, the United Way has collected over 250 million dollars, yet have paid out only 35 million dollars. Further, the money has not been paid to the victims or their families, but rather has been sent to other charities for distribution. These charities then pay their own personnel and “administrative costs”. However, the actual victims and their families have seen little or none of the money.

The American Red Cross now admitted that only about 20% of the money they have collected for the “relief fund” will be paid to the victims and their families. The rest is for “other purposes”. This is the same American red Cross organization that delivered tens of thousands of letters to the mother of two children who died in the Oklahoma City Bombing. Each of the letters had been opened before being delivered and all of the money was missing!

New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani established the Twin Towers Fund to provide relief to the victims and their families. So far, the fund has raised about 100 million dollars. Not one penny has been paid to anyone! When confronted with this fact, Giuliani said that the money is for “future needs”. Other charities are now saying the same thing, when challenged about their respective disbursement policies.

My questions is this: when events took place to raise money for the relief effort, were the people who were being asked to donate their hard earned money told that the money would not be given directly to the victims and their families? The answer is a resounding no! People were lied to and have been cheated out of what currently amounts to about half a billion dollars in donations. They were told they would be helping victims of the Sept. 11th tragedy. However, their money is being used to support administrative salaries (some of which are six or seven digits annually).

There has been no government oversight, either. The New York Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Governor each have said there is nothing they can or will do.

What kind of disgusting creatures use a devastating tragedy in which thousands of lives were lost to line their own pockets? What kind of vermin allows it to occur? And what kind of mindless cattle continue to donate money under such circumstances?

I strongly advocate the total boycott of all official charity organizations. Stop giving money to organizations . If you know of someone who needs help and you are in a position to help that person, then do so. Contribute directly to those who need your help. Don’t use an agent or organization to assuage your guilt, which is why most people contribute. You have no idea how your money is being used, so how can you imagine that you are helping anyone in need by your donation? Boycott all relief fund agencies. Boycott the United Way, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc.

The American people want to be generous to a fault. There are slimy worms who call themselves human beings, who use that generosity to manipulate and ultimately steal from good-hearted but naïve people. Harden your heart a bit. Protect what you have earned for your family, friends, and those who really need help. If you don’t stop supporting this kind of unlawful behavior, then you condone it. Please stop contributing to the racketeering policies of charity organizations. It’s the honorable thing to do. It’s the Christian thing to do. It’s the right thing to do.
