NEW YORK (PNN) - June 12, 2020 - A new poll has found that black Amerikans overwhelmingly oppose rioters’ demands of defunding the cops.
The YouGov/HuffPost poll found that most Amerikans do want cop reform, such as banning chokeholds, but defunding the cops was the least popular policy they asked about.
They found that while about a quarter of black Amerikans support defunding the cops, 49% oppose the idea.
The divide over defunding cops is also partisan. Self-described liberals support defunding the (cops) by a 13-point margin. But nearly every other ideological and demographic group opposes it. Democrats and Democrat leaners oppose it by a 4-percentage point margin, and Black Americans oppose it by a 20-point margin.
By contrast, solid majorities of the public favor banning terrorist pig thug cop chokeholds (73% support this), creating a federal registry for complaints against terrorist pig thug cops (72%), developing a national standard for terrorist pig thug cop use of force (69%), making it easier for the federal government to charge terrorist pig thug cops for using excessive force (68%), assigning independent prosecutors to handle cases where terrorist pig thug cops use fatal force (67%), and eliminating terrorist pig thug cops’ “qualified immunity” against misconduct lawsuits (59%).
The poll found that white people and Republicans are most opposed to defunding cops, as well as older Amerikans.
